"1984" is the first single off my upcoming full-length album.
"1984" is the first single off my upcoming full-length album. Written during the pandemic lockdown, the song is an ode to often blissful, sometimes painful solo cinema of an introvert in isolation.
lyrics
1984
Words and Music by Andrea Wittgens
Right about 13, I started to care
I went from under their feet to out of their hair
In my room I made stories just to make sense
of the reality over the fence
Are you sweet sixteen or resident evil?
Quite the rock and hard place - you feel me, Ophelia?
Why the hell are we hanging round this castle of crazies
When we're so much better than drowning in daisies
We could walk on water, steal a boat, get wrecked
hit rock bottom but come back blessed
we are cosmonauts, but first, birds in the nest
prodigal daughters we just haven't left yet
I don't sleep
I dream on the floor
Been making movies on the ceiling since 1984
I'm out of touch
But everything's looking up
There's truth and my memories and the gulf between
And I live there in technicolor, but stay off-screen
When the colors start colluding against me again
I get over-saturated and walls start to bend
I used to party with the midnight cowboy
he said "The pain is real. God is a decoy"
You can sweat it out or get synthetically sane
I heard he died in the desert on that horse with no -
All I ever wanted was love
and to stop running in the dark trying to catch a rush
When I was an ocean you were my rock
That's not true but it's a beautiful thought
I don't sleep
I dream on the floor
Been making movies on the ceiling since 1984
I'm out of touch
But everything's looking up
I don't sleep
I dream on the floor
You can write me your letters, slide them under the door
I'm out of touch
But everything
everything's looking up
I'm looking up .
